Ottawa Public Health - Parenting in Ottawa Drop-Ins

In person support with a Public Health Nurse experienced with infant feeding are available at many sites throughout the city of Ottawa.

No appointment necessary, simply drop-in during the clinic's hours. Clinics are closed on statutory holidays unless otherwise specified. 

Please note:

  • Parenting in Ottawa drop-ins do not offer health exams and do not replace a visit to a primary care provider (doctor or nurse practitioner).
  • Consultations with a Public Health Nurse may be limited to 15-20 minutes.

 Carlington Community Health Centre

No-Fee Breastfeeding and Infant Feeding Clinic

For women and families who would like 1:1 support with infant feeding, and/or breastfeeding support.  Thursdays 1-3pm.  Free 30 min consultations. No appointment needed.

Please note that every effort will be made to accommodate families attending, but there are limited spaces. 

Plan to arrive at the beginning of the clinic to register onsite, to avoid disappointment.

No-Fee 1:1 Lactation Consultations (Prenatal and Postnatal)

For families who would like FREE 1:1 breastfeeding and feeding support. 

By appointment only for in-person, telephone or on-line visits. 

Send appointment requests to breastfeeding@carlingtonchc.org with the following:

  • your full name and date of birth,
  • baby full name and date of birth,
  • preferred email and phone number
  • brief description of your lactation needs

Virtual Group Breastfeeding Support - Q & A with a Lactation Consultant

Join other mothers (and mothers-to-be) for an informal VIRTUAL session every Tuesday 4-5:00 pm.

High-risk pregnancy:  Roadmap for successful breastfeeding

Are you experiencing a high-risk pregnancy?  Worried about breastfeeding success?

Join our Lactation Consultant for a Prenatal Information Session designed for families who are experiencing high risk pregnancy.

Learn about specific strategies to improve your breastfeeding success.

Centretown Community Health Centre

Breastfeeding support is available on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Clients can call 613-233-4679 or visit the Centretown CHC Website for specific dates.

Baby Weight Checks: parents can have their baby weighed on Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00pm by appointment only. To book an appointment call 613-233-4697. Please note: This is not a medical appointment and a health care provider will not assess baby weights.

Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre

Breastfeeding support provided by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) by telephone or in person.

Individual breastfeeding support by appointment for residents of the catchment area only (north of hwy 417,  east of Island Park, west of Bronson and south of Ottawa River).

South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre

Breastfeeding support provided by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Local Breastfeeding Support

La Leche League Canada:  Parents can go to monthly gatherings (in-person and/or virtual) to get breastfeeding and chestfeeding information and support. The meetings also give parents the chance to meet other breastfeeding families. La Leche League Canada offers telephone support for pregnant and breastfeeding people. You can contact them for breastfeeding information and support 7 days a week.
