Telephone support line for families of babies, up
to 1 year
Due to the decreased support in our community related to COVID-19 including the suspension of the Parenting-in-Ottawa drop-ins, Ottawa Public Health has increased telephone support for families of babies, up to 1 year. If needed, we can also offer support to you and your family via videoconferencing through the Ontario Telemedicine Network.

Do you need help with breastfeeding/chestfeeding?
- Speak directly with a Public Health Nurse and/or Lactation Consultant
- Seven days a week (closed on statutory holidays), from 9:00am to 3:00pm, call 613-580-2424 ext 23774
- One-on-one appointment may be scheduled with parent and baby on either Monday or Thursday, as needed
You can also continue to call the Ottawa Public Health Information Line to speak directly with a Public Health Nurse:
- Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00pm, call 613-PARENTS (613-727-3687) (ATS : 613-580-9656) and choose option 4. Chat option also available.
*Note due to COVID-19 many sites have changed their in person services.

Breastfeeding support: Individual breastfeeding support is available (by appointment only) on Tuesdays during business hours. Support is provided by phone, virtually or in person (limited appointments). To access this service, please call 613-233-2317 ext. 2144. Baby Weight Checks: parents can have their baby weighed on Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00pm by appointment only. To book an appointment call 613-233-4697. Please note: This is not a medical appointment and a health care provider will not assess baby weights. |
Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre |
Breastfeeding support provided by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Call at 613-820-4922 ext. 3604 Tuesday through Friday (during business hours) to access telephone support. One-on-one appointment may be scheduled with parent and baby on Friday morning if needed. |
Somerset West Community Health Centre |
Individual breastfeeding support by appointment for residents of the catchment area only (north of hwy 417, east of Island Park, west of Bronson and south of Ottawa River). Call 613-688-1177 to leave a message for a phone consultation with the Lactation Consultant. |
South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre |
Breastfeeding support provided by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Call at 613-737-5115 ext 2327 Mondays and Thursdays (during business hours) to access telephone or virtual support. One-on-one appointment may be scheduled with parent and baby on either Monday or Thursday, as needed. Babies needing to be weighed may book an appointment on either Monday or Thursday by calling 613-737-5115 ext 2327. |

Mothers can go to monthly gatherings to get breastfeeding information and support. The meetings also give mothers the chance to meet other mothers who are breastfeeding. They also offer telephone support for pregnant and breastfeeding women. You can contact La Leche League Canada for breastfeeding information and support 7 days a week.
